The 39th Pia Film Festival (The 39th PFF)
~To discover and To nurture new filmmaking talent~
OutlinePia Film Festival, PFF, working since 1977 under the theme of “discovering and nurturing new filmmaking talent,” marks its 3９th anniversary this year. In the PFF Award 2017 competition, which is for “discovering new talent,” each of the 17 nominees, selected from among 548 films submitted by amateur filmmakers aspiring for a professional career, will be screened twice during the film festival and the award winners will be announced and commended at the Award Ceremony on the last day of the festival. With a view to getting connected to the global audience and to inspiring the filmmakers to a yet higher plane of creativity, PFF has been actively promoting participation into film festivals overseas. As a result, PFF award winners are gaining appreciative recognition around the world, and “ANATOMY of a Paper Clip,” winner of last year’s PFF Special Jury Prize, was awarded with the Grand Prize at the competition section of Vancouver International Film Festival and Rotterdam International Film Festival. During the 39 -year history of PFF, a total of 21,854 films have been submitted for competition, of which 649 were selected as nominees for PFF awards, and over 120 entrants are now established professional filmmakers.
